A man has appeared in court charged with murdering three children and attempting to murder a woman in Southport.
Luke Mitchell, 29, of Gordon Street, Southport, appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court on Thursday, April 20, 2023, charged with three counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of possession of a bladed article.
The charges relate to an incident on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, in which three children, aged three, 11 and 13, were found dead at a property in Gordon Street.
A 34-year-old woman was also found at the property with serious injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment.
Mitchell was remanded in custody and is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court on Friday, April 21, 2023.
The victims have been named as Ama, Lexi and Conor Briggs.
In a statement, Merseyside Police said: "We can confirm that Luke Mitchell, 29, of Gordon Street, Southport, has been charged with the murders of Ama, Lexi and Conor Briggs.
"He has also been charged with the attempted murder of a 34-year-old woman and possession of a bladed article.
"Mitchell appeared at Liverpool, Knowsley and St Helens Magistrates' Court today, Thursday, April 20, 2023, and was remanded in custody.
"He is due to appear at Liverpool Crown Court tomorrow, Friday, April 21, 2023.
"Our thoughts are with the families of the victims at this difficult time."
