Post Office to Set Out Plans for Branch Closures and Job Cuts
The Post Office is set to announce plans for the closure of hundreds of branches and the loss of thousands of jobs, as part of a major restructuring of the business.
The move will come as a blow to communities across the UK, particularly in rural areas where the Post Office is often the only access to essential services.
The Post Office has been struggling financially in recent years, due to a decline in the use of traditional mail services and the rise of online banking.
The company has already announced plans to close 2,500 branches by 2024, but the latest plans are likely to see a further 1,000 branches closed.
The Communication Workers Union (CWU), which represents Post Office workers, has warned that the closures could lead to the loss of up to 6,000 jobs.
The CWU has called on the government to take action to protect the Post Office network, arguing that it is a vital service for communities across the UK.
The government has said that it is committed to supporting the Post Office, but has not yet announced any specific plans to do so.
