The Pegasus flight PC2193, en route from Izmir to Istanbul, crashed at 18:25 while landing at Sabiha Gökçen airport.
The accident, of which the dynamics are still to be ascertained, killed three people and injured 179, 15 of whom are in serious condition.
According to initial information, the plane hit the ground several times and then broke into three pieces.

The governor of Istanbul, Ali Yerlikaya, said that 179 injured people were taken to 19 hospitals in the city.
Pegasus Airlines said in a statement that the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, registration number TC-IZK, had 183 passengers and six crew members on board at the time of the accident.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said he was "saddened" by the plane crash and offered his condolences to the victims' families.
The prosecutor's office in Istanbul has opened an investigation into the accident.
The reconstruction of the accident
According to witnesses, the plane landed hard on the runway amidst heavy rain and strong winds and then broke into three pieces.
The cockpit was detached from the rest of the fuselage and ended up in a field near the runway.
The governor of Istanbul, speaking to reporters at the scene, said that it was still too early to say what caused the accident.
