Wales v Australia: Warren Gatland and Joe Schmidt rekindle rivalry
Former coaches Gatland and Schmidt to face off in first meeting since 2019 Rugby World Cup semi-final
Wales will take on Australia in a one-off Test match at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on July 8, 2023.
The match will see former Wales coach Warren Gatland, now in charge of the British and Irish Lions, face off against his former Ireland counterpart Joe Schmidt, who is now in charge of the Wallabies.
It will be the first time Gatland and Schmidt have faced each other since the 2019 Rugby World Cup semi-final, which Wales won 20-19.
Gatland said he was looking forward to the match and the challenge of facing Schmidt again.
"Joe is a world-class coach and I know he will have Australia well-prepared," Gatland said.
"It will be a tough challenge but we are confident we can get a result."
Schmidt said he was also looking forward to the match and the opportunity to face Gatland again.
"Warren is a great coach and I know he will have Wales ready for us," Schmidt said.
"We are looking forward to the challenge and we are confident we can get a result."
The match will be part of Wales' preparations for the 2023 Rugby World Cup in France.
It will also be Australia's first match under Schmidt, who took over from Dave Rennie in January.
The Wallabies are currently ranked eighth in the world, while Wales are ranked ninth.
