Wales are officially the worst team in their history after slumping to a record 39-3 defeat to Australia in Cardiff.

The defeat was Wales' heaviest ever loss to Australia, surpassing the 33-12 defeat in Sydney in 2012.

It also equals Wales' record margin of defeat, which came against New Zealand in 2017.

The result leaves Wales coach Warren Gatland facing calls to quit after 12 years in charge.

The defeat to Australia was Wales' heaviest ever loss at home, and it is the first time they have lost three consecutive home games since 2003.

Australia were dominant from start to finish in Cardiff, with Marika Koroibete scoring two tries in the first half.

The Wallabies extended their lead to 29-3 in the second half, with tries from Taniela Tupou and Samu Kerevi.

Wales' only points came from a penalty by Leigh Halfpenny in the first half.

The defeat has been met with widespread criticism in Wales, with many fans calling for Gatland to quit.
