Tulisa’s secret trauma that left her with night-time phobia as she heads into I’m A Celeb jungle camp
A defiant Tulisa Contostavlos will be battling her phobia of the dark as she takes on I’m A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here!
The former X Factor judge has admitted she has a lifelong fear of the dark and sufferers from terrifying night terrors - but says she is going into the jungle to overcome this.
The N-Dubz star admitted: “I have night terrors where I can see everything but I can’t move or speak." She continued: "I used to have them all the time but now I can control them a little bit… I sleep with the light on, I’m terrified of the dark.”
Tulisa will be heading into Gwrych Castle in Wales for the new series alongside the likes of Sir Mo Farah, Richard Madeley and Arlene Phillips.
She added: “I always said I would never do I’m A Celeb because of the eating challenges and the sleeping situation but this year I thought I would go for it and challenge myself. I need to get over my fears and phobias." The singer has been open about her mental health struggles in the past, including battling depression following her arrest for assault in 2013.
Tulisa’s reasons to take part:
- To overcome her fear of the dark
- To challenge herself
- To raise awareness of mental health issues
She has been working with a therapist and says she is now in a much better place. Tulisa hopes that by taking part in the show, she can inspire others who are struggling with similar issues.
She said: “I have always spoken openly about my mental health and have always thought that I would never put myself in a situation where my head might be affected." She continued: "I feel that my mental health is strong enough now to cope with anything that may be thrown at me. I’m actually very excited for the challenge." I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! returns to ITV on Sunday, November 21.
