Sinner triumphs at the Finals

Jannik Sinner triumphed at the Next Gen ATP Finals, the end-of-season tournament reserved for the best Under-21 players in the world, beating the American Brandon Nakashima in the final with a score of 4-3 (4), 4-3 (2), 4-2.

The victory in Milan is the second career title for the 20-year-old from San Candido, after the one conquered in Sofia in 2021, and allows him to close the season in 15th position in the ATP ranking, improving his personal best achieved in November with the 17th position.

Sinner had qualified for the semifinals by dominating the group stage, with victories over Nakashima, the Dane Holger Rune and the Swiss Dominic Stricker, and then beating the Slovak Alex Molcan in the semifinals.

Also Lorenzo Sonego and Andrea Vavassori have qualified for the final phase of the Davis Cup, beating Sweden in Bologna (2-1).

Vavassori, number 229 in the ATP ranking, was chosen by captain Filippo Volandri to replace Matteo Berrettini, number 16 in the world, who had to forfeit due to a foot injury. Vavassori justified Volandri's trust by beating the Swede Mikael Ymer, number 70 in the ATP ranking and number one of his country, in straight sets (6-4, 6-4).

In the other singles match, Sonego defeated Elias Ymer, number 124 in the ATP ranking, with a score of 6-4, 6-3. In the doubles match, the Swedish pair of Andre Goransson and Elias Ymer beat the Italian pair formed by Fabio Fognini and Simone Bolelli with a score of 6-3, 6-3.
