Spain's De la Fuente: 'We want to be number one in the FIFA rankings'
Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has set his sights on leading his team to the top of the FIFA rankings after they moved up to second place following their recent victories over Jordan and Scotland
De la Fuente took over as Spain coach in December following Luis Enrique's departure and has overseen a 100 per cent record in his three matches in charge so far.
Spain are now just three points behind leaders Brazil in the FIFA rankings and De la Fuente is confident that his team can close the gap.
"We want to be number one in the FIFA rankings," De la Fuente said. "We have a great team and we are capable of achieving anything.
"We are going to keep working hard to improve and I am sure that we can reach our goal."
Spain will have the chance to move closer to the top of the rankings when they face Switzerland in a friendly on March 25.
De la Fuente is likely to field a strong team for the match as he looks to continue his winning start as Spain coach.
Spain have a good record against Switzerland, winning three of their last four meetings.
However, Switzerland will be looking to get one over on Spain after losing 2-1 to them in the Nations League in September.
The match will be a good test for both teams as they prepare for their upcoming qualifying campaigns for the 2024 European Championship
