Sei Giorni di Gand 2024: De Vylder-Ghys extend their lead
Belgian duo maintain their grip on the race with another dominant performance
The Belgian pair of Robbe Ghys and Lindsay De Vylder extended their lead in the Sei Giorni di Gand 2024 on Friday, winning the fourth stage of the race to increase their advantage over their nearest rivals.
More than a minute clear
Ghys and De Vylder now lead the race by more than a minute, having won three of the four stages so far. The Belgian duo are the only riders to have won more than one stage in the race so far.
The fourth stage was a 50km Madison, and Ghys and De Vylder were in control from the start. They won the first sprint of the race and then built up a lead of over a lap on the rest of the field.
They were never seriously challenged and eventually won the stage by a margin of over 30 seconds. The victory extends their lead in the overall standings to 1 minute and 10 seconds over their nearest rivals, the Dutch pair of Yoeri Havik and Wim Stroetinga.
The Sei Giorni di Gand is one of the most prestigious track cycling races in the world. The race is held over six days and consists of a series of different events, including Madison, Derny and Points races.
Ghys and De Vylder are now the favorites to win the race, but they will be looking over their shoulders as Havik and Stroetinga are also in good form. The Dutchman won the third stage of the race and will be looking to make up ground on the Belgian duo in the remaining two stages.
