Roma, gas leak in a building: a woman and a 13-year-old taken ill
What happened?
Yesterday evening, around 8.45 pm, a gas leak occurred in a building in via Carlo Emery, in the San Lorenzo district in Rome. Two people, a woman and a 13-year-old boy, were taken ill and transported to the Policlinico Umberto I hospital in code yellow (i.e. not in serious condition).
Rescue operations
The fire brigade intervened on the spot together with the 118 health workers. The two victims were found in an apartment on the first floor of the building and were immediately taken care of by the medical staff. After the initial treatment, they were transported to the hospital for further examinations.
Investigations underway
The gas leak was caused by a malfunction of the boiler inside the apartment. The fire brigade is carrying out the necessary checks to ascertain the exact causes of the accident and to restore safety conditions in the building.
The mayor's comment
The mayor of Rome, Roberto Gualtieri, expressed his closeness to the victims of the accident: "I am following with concern the news of the gas leak that occurred in via Carlo Emery. I hope that the two people taken ill will recover as soon as possible. I have asked for an immediate report on the causes of the accident and on the safety conditions of the building".
