Every day in the world 3,700 people die on the roads, which translates into 1.3 million deaths per year: young people are the most vulnerable.
For this reason, the UN has launched the global campaign #StreetsForLife, which aims to promote safe road infrastructure, vehicles and behaviors.
“Road traffic accidents are the leading cause of death for young people aged 15 to 29,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
In Italy in 2023, according to the ACI Istat report, there were 151,875 road accidents, resulting in 2,875 deaths and 204,706 injuries.
The province of Cuneo, in Granda, has already exceeded the total number of road deaths for the whole of 2023, with 36 victims recorded so far.
In the face of these dramatic figures, the UN is calling on governments, companies and civil society organizations to work together to make roads safer for everyone.
