Emergency services rushed to the scene on Bristol Road, Northfield, after a teenager was stabbed on Monday afternoon.
The victim, who is believed to be in his late teens, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, police said.
A large cordon was put in place as forensic officers carried out their investigations.
Witnesses reported seeing a number of police cars and ambulances at the scene, as well as a police helicopter overhead.
One eyewitness, who did not want to be named, said: "I saw a young lad lying on the floor with blood coming from his chest." Birmingham Live.
"There were lots of police and paramedics around him, trying to help him."
"It was really shocking to see something like that happen in broad daylight."
A West Midlands Police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of a stabbing on Bristol Road, Northfield, at around 4.30pm on Monday, 27th February.”
