The Calabrian sceneggiata
The Calabrian sceneggiata is a popular theatrical genre that originated in Naples in the 19th century, and spread to Calabria in the early 20th century. It is a combination of music, theater and melodrama, and is usually performed in the Neapolitan language. The themes of the sceneggiata are often love, betrayal and revenge, and the stories are often set in the poor neighborhoods of Naples or other cities. The performances are usually accompanied by music, and the actors often sing and dance.
The sceneggiata has been very popular in Calabria for many years, and has produced many famous actors and singers. In recent years, the sceneggiata has been revived in Calabria, and there are now many companies that stage performances throughout the region.
