Newcastle's Christmas Market is Back - and It's Already Better Than Ever
Festive cheer has hit the Toon, with Newcastle's Christmas Market proving more popular than ever.
A boost to the local economy
Since opening on November 17, the festive extravaganza has brought in thousands of visitors, generating a vital boost for Newcastle's economy.
Newcastle City Council leader Nick Forbes is encouraging people to visit the market to "experience the unique festive atmosphere for themselves," adding "Our Christmas Market is renowned for its unique and diverse range of festive gifts, decorations, food, and drink, and there is plenty for all the family to enjoy."
Number of festive favorites returning
Traders have welcomed this year's market, with a number of festive favorites returning to the city center.
Julie Watt, from Whitley Bay, who sells Christmas decorations at the market, said: "It's lovely to be back – this is my 17th year here. It's got that busy Christmas atmosphere already, and it's lovely to see so many people out enjoying themselves."
Festive food and drink
As well as stalls selling festive decorations and gifts, the market has a range of food and drink stalls.
Visitors can enjoy bratwurst, hog roast, paella, pizza, crepes, churros, and mulled wine as they browse the stalls.
Visit Santa in his magical grotto
For children, one of the highlights of the Christmas Market is Santa's magical grotto.
Children can meet Santa and tell him their Christmas wishes, and receive a special gift.
Free festive entertainment
As well as the stalls and Santa's grotto, there is also a range of free festive entertainment on offer at the Christmas Market.
There will be live music, street performers, and a snow machine, creating a truly magical Christmas atmosphere.
Dates and times
Newcastle's Christmas Market is open from November 17 until December 30, 2023.
It is open from 10 am to 7 pm Sunday to Wednesday, and from 10 am to 8 pm Thursday to Saturday.
The market is located in Newcastle city center, around Grey's Monument and Old Eldon Square.
