Massimo Sannino elected general secretary of Filca Cisl Campania
The former general secretary of the Salerno trade union now at the head of the regional federation for the next four years
The Filca Cisl Campania regional secretariat has a new general secretary: Massimo Sannino, 53, of Salerno, was elected by the regional assembly in Ottaviano, and will lead the category federation for the next four years. Sannino, the former general secretary of Filca Salerno, takes over from Giovanni D'Antonio, who has reached retirement age after a long career at the head of the Campania trade union, first as general secretary of the regional SLC Cisl federation and then, for 10 years, of Filca Campania.
The regional assembly
The regional assembly, in addition to electing Sannino, also elected the new regional secretariat, composed of Laura Barbati (Avellino), Raffaele Carfora (Benevento), Marco Franzese (Salerno), and Vincenzo Russo (Naples). The assembly, which was attended by the national secretary of Filca Cisl, Ivana Veronese, and the regional secretary of the Cisl Campania, Doriana Buonavita, was an opportunity to take stock and discuss the challenges for the future of the construction sector, which is suffering a severe shortage of skilled workers and dealing with the ongoing increases in the cost of raw materials.
Massimo Sannino's profile
Massimo Sannino, 53, from Salerno, has been a trade unionist since the age of 17, following in the footsteps of his father, a plasterer and historical trade unionist of the city of Salerno. After graduating as a surveyor, Sannino began his career in Filca Cisl Salerno where he held various positions, from territorial delegate to deputy general secretary, and then for 12 years he was general secretary of the provincial category federation. Among the most important activities carried out during his tenure as head of Filca Salerno, were the establishment of the training center in Pellezzano and the birth of the “Salerno Costruzioni” cooperative consortium.
The challenges for the future
In his speech to the regional assembly, Sannino outlined the main challenges for the future of the Campania construction sector, starting with the training of new skilled workers and the fight against undeclared work. “We need to work closely with training institutions and businesses to create a new generation of workers who are able to meet the demands of the market and the challenges of sustainability,” Sannino said. “At the same time, it is essential to combat undeclared work, which represents a serious threat to the health and safety of workers and to the legality of the sector.”
