Liverpool keeper Kelleher: My goal is to stay No1 for club and country

Caoimhin Kelleher reveals his desire to remain Liverpool's first-choice goalkeeper and establish himself as Ireland's No1 ahead of Gavin Bazunu.

The 24-year-old has been in impressive form for the Reds this season, starting all six of their Champions League matches and keeping five clean sheets. He has also made four appearances in the Premier League, deputising for the injured Alisson Becker.

Kelleher's performances have led to calls for him to be given a more regular starting role at Liverpool, and he is now determined to prove that he is capable of being the club's No1.

“I want to be playing as many games as possible for Liverpool and Ireland,” Kelleher said. “That's my goal, to be the No1 goalkeeper for both club and country.”

Kelleher faces a tough challenge to dislodge Alisson from the Liverpool team, but he is confident that he can eventually achieve his goal.

“Alisson is a world-class goalkeeper, but I believe in myself and I know that I can be as good as him one day,” Kelleher said. “I just need to keep working hard and taking my chances when I get them.”

Kelleher's ambitions extend beyond Liverpool, as he is also determined to establish himself as Ireland's No1 goalkeeper ahead of Southampton's Gavin Bazunu.

“I've been capped a few times for Ireland, but I want to be the No1 goalkeeper,” Kelleher said. “I know that there's a lot of competition, but I'm confident that I can be the best goalkeeper in Ireland.”

Kelleher is likely to get his chance to impress for Ireland in the upcoming UEFA Nations League matches against Scotland and Armenia.

The Cork native has earned four caps for his country, and he is eager to add to that tally.

“I'm really looking forward to the Nations League games,” Kelleher said. “It's a great opportunity for me to show what I can do and to help Ireland qualify for the finals.”
