Kylian Mbappé facing 'physical and psychological' struggles
France boss Didier Deschamps says 24-year-old is 'going through a difficult period' ahead of World Cup
Mbappé has scored just one goal in his last six games for club and country
Kylian Mbappé is going through a "difficult period" due to physical fatigue and psychological pressure ahead of the World Cup, France boss Didier Deschamps has said.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward, who is widely considered one of the best players in the world, has scored just once in his last six games for club and country.
He was substituted in the second half of PSG's 2-1 defeat to Marseille in Le Classique last weekend, and was also taken off in the first half of France's Nations League defeat to Denmark on Sunday.
Deschamps said Mbappé is "not at his best physically or psychologically" and that he is "going through a difficult period".
"He knows it, we know it," Deschamps said. "We're going to try to help him get through it."
Mbappé is expected to start for France in their final Nations League match against Austria on Thursday, but Deschamps said he will make a decision on his lineup after training.
"We'll see how he is in training," Deschamps said. "He's an important player for us, but we have other options."
France are the defending World Cup champions and are one of the favorites to win the tournament in Qatar this winter. Mbappé is expected to play a key role for Les Bleus, but he will need to improve his form if he is to help them retain their title.
