Jason Gillespie appointed Pakistan's head coach for T20 World Cup
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the appointment of Jason Gillespie as the new head coach of the Pakistan cricket team for the upcoming Twenty20 World Cup in Australia.
Gillespie, who is currently the head coach of the Australian Men's Cricket Team, is expected to join PCB in late August after the conclusion of his commitments with Cricket Australia.
The former Australian fast bowler will take over the reins from Saqlain Mushtaq, who had been serving as the interim head coach since the departure of Mickey Arthur in February this year.
Gillespie has a wealth of experience in coaching, having previously led the Yorkshire County Cricket Club to two County Championships and a One-Day Cup title. He also had a successful stint as the head coach of the Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League, guiding them to their maiden title in the 2017-18 season.
PCB chairman Ramiz Raja said that Gillespie's appointment was a major coup for Pakistan cricket and that he was confident that he would be able to help the team achieve success at the World Cup.
"Jason Gillespie is a world-class coach with a proven track record of success," Raja said. "He has a deep understanding of the game and is known for his innovative and attacking style of play.
"I am confident that he will be able to help our team reach its full potential and challenge for the title at the World Cup," Raja added.
Gillespie said that he was excited to take on the challenge of coaching the Pakistan cricket team and that he was looking forward to working with the talented players in the squad.
"I am honored to have been appointed as the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team," Gillespie said. "Pakistan has a rich history in the game and I am excited to be part of its future.
"I believe that this team has the potential to be one of the best in the world and I am looking forward to working with the players to help them achieve their goals."
