Georgia To Host A UN Workshop On Narcotic Substances

Opening Session Of The Workshop On Strengthening Border Controls To Counter Illicit Drug Trafficking

The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) will hold a regional workshop in Tbilisi, Georgia, from 27 to 29 September 2023, to strengthen border controls and counter illicit drug trafficking in the region.

The workshop will bring together experts from customs, border control, and law enforcement agencies from 10 countries in the region, including Afghanistan, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Turkmenistan.

The workshop will focus on the latest trends and challenges in illicit drug trafficking, as well as best practices in border control and drug interdiction. Participants will also discuss the use of technology to enhance border security and prevent the trafficking of illicit drugs.

The workshop is part of UNODC's ongoing efforts to support countries in the region to combat illicit drug trafficking and promote public health and safety.
