Georgia elections chief's office vandalized following runoff
Paint thrown over Georgia elections chief as ruling party victory confirmed
Paint was thrown over the office of Georgia's elections chief on Wednesday, after the ruling party's candidate was confirmed as the winner of a closely watched runoff election.
The incident occurred at the office of Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger, who has been a target of criticism from both Republicans and Democrats over his handling of the 2020 presidential election.
Raffensperger's office confirmed the incident in a statement, saying that "a small amount of paint" had been thrown on the building's exterior.
The incident is being investigated by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
No injuries were reported, and the office remained open for business.
The attack came just hours after Democratic candidate Raphael Warnock conceded defeat to Republican Herschel Walker in the runoff election for U.S. Senate.
Walker's victory gives Republicans a 51-49 majority in the Senate, strengthening their control of Congress.
Raffensperger has been a vocal critic of former President Donald Trump's claims that the 2020 election was stolen.
Trump has repeatedly attacked Raffensperger, accusing him of being a "RINO" (Republican in name only) and a "never-Trumper."
Raffensperger has defended his handling of the election, saying that he followed the law and that there was no evidence of widespread fraud.
