Furious locals 'boycott' Tesco over decision to open on Sundays
Angry residents have accused Tesco of being "money-grabbing" after it announced plans to open its new store in their town on Sundays
More than 1,000 people have signed a petition opposing the move, which they say will ruin the "traditional" feel of their community.
The supermarket giant is planning to open a new store in the town of Market Harborough, Leicestershire, in the spring.
But residents are furious about the plans, saying it will lead to increased traffic, noise and pollution.
They also say it will damage the town's independent shops, which they say are already struggling to compete with the big supermarkets.
One resident, who asked not to be named, said: "This is a small town and we don't want it to be taken over by Tesco.
"It will ruin the traditional feel of the town and it will damage our local shops."
Another resident, who also asked not to be named, said: "Tesco is just being money-grabbing.
"They don't care about the community, they just want to make as much money as they can.
"We won't be shopping at Tesco anymore."
The petition against the Tesco store has been signed by more than 1,000 people.
It will be handed to the local council, which will make a decision on the planning application.
A Tesco spokesman said: "We understand that some people are concerned about our plans to open a new store in Market Harborough.
"We would like to reassure residents that we have listened to their concerns and we are confident that our store will be a positive addition to the community.
"We are committed to working with the local community to ensure that our store meets their needs."
