Football news LIVE - Bentancur banned for seven games plus reaction as England promoted
Bentancur receives suspension
Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has been banned for three Premier League games after being found guilty of violent conduct by the Football Association following an incident involving Arsenal's Takehiro Tomiyasu.
Extension of suspension
The sanction has been extended to seven matches following an unsuccessful appeal by Tottenham, meaning Bentancur will now miss crucial matches against Manchester United and Manchester City.
England's promotion
Meanwhile, England have been promoted to League A of the UEFA Nations League after defeating Italy 1-0 in their final group match. Gareth Southgate's side finished top of their group with 15 points, one ahead of second-placed Italy.
Reaction to Bentancur's ban
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte has expressed his disappointment with the ban, saying: "I'm very disappointed with the decision. I think it's a big mistake. It's incredible that the FA has decided to extend the ban. It's not fair for us or for Rodrigo."
Former England manager Glenn Hoddle has also weighed in on the ban, saying: "I think it's harsh. I can understand why the FA has given him three games, but I don't think it should have been extended to seven games. I think it's excessive."
Reaction to England's promotion
Southgate has praised his players for their performance against Italy, saying: "I'm very proud of the players. They showed great character and resilience to win the game. It's a big achievement to win our group and get promoted to League A."
Former England defender Rio Ferdinand has also praised the team, saying: "England were excellent tonight. They controlled the game from start to finish and deserved to win. I'm excited about the future of this team."
