EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison reveals she was so strapped for cash she was reduced to tears after visiting a food bank
Former EastEnders star Cheryl Fergison has revealed that she was so strapped for cash that she was reduced to tears after visiting a food bank.
The actress, who played Heather Trott on the BBC soap, said that she had been struggling to make ends meet after her benefits were stopped.
Fergison, 58, said that she had been living on just £50 a week and had been unable to afford to buy food for herself.
She said that she had been too proud to ask for help, but eventually decided to visit a food bank.
Fergison said that she was met with kindness and compassion at the food bank and was given enough food to last her for a week.
She said that the experience had been a humbling one and had made her realise that she was not alone.
Fergison said that she was now determined to help others who were struggling and was volunteering at a food bank.
She said: "I never thought I would be in a position where I would need to use a food bank, but I am so grateful that I did.
"It was a humbling experience and it made me realise that I am not alone."
"I am now determined to help others who are struggling and I am volunteering at a food bank."
Fergison's story is a reminder that anyone can find themselves in financial difficulty and that there is no shame in asking for help.
If you are struggling to make ends meet, there are a number of organisations that can help you, including food banks, Citizens Advice and the Trussell Trust.
