Deschamps: "Unfortunate for the whistles to the national anthem, bravo the Italian players..."
Didier Deschamps, coach of the French, commented on the match against Italy
Here's what he said
France coach Didier Deschamps spoke at a press conference after the 1-1 draw against Italy at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan. Here are his words.
"The whistles to the national anthem? It is unfortunate. I am not in charge of education, unfortunately. It is only a minority. Peccato. These are the same supporters who whistled the anthem when we played last time in Nice, but our players remained focused on the pitch. I understand that there is disappointment, but we have to support the players. We should focus on our mistakes on the ground rather than the whistles”.
"The game? We had opportunities even in the first half and came close to scoring first. It was a very lively game, it's a shame not to have won. We could have scored more goals, but we also conceded too many”.
"We have good players, young players. The maturity will come. We have to have patience with these players: Giroud, Griezmann, Mbappé and Benzema are very young. They have a good mentality and a lot of desire to do well. I am sure they will progress further”.
The words of the CT of the Azzurri, Roberto Mancini
Roberto Mancini, CT of the Azzurri, also spoke at a press conference at the end of the match. These are his words.
"The performance was good, especially in the first half. We played very well, we wanted to seek the goal, and we succeeded. We need to win back the enthusiasm of the fans, and we started well.”
"The whistles before the match? It's not up to me to comment, but when the anthem is sung you have to be silent and listen. Everyone is free to express themselves, but the national anthem is something sacred. It is not right to whistle".
"My future? I will continue, I have a contract and I am happy. The disappointment of not going to the World Cup remains, but we need to look ahead because there are other important goals to achieve”.
