Death In Paradise's secrets revealed by its new star, ANNA SAMSON
In every way, adorable
Anna Samson joined Death In Paradise as DS Florence Cassell in 2023. And the actor has given readers an insight into what goes on behind the scenes on the sun-drenched crime drama. Anna, 32, who is the first female detective sergeant in the show's history, revealed that she found some of her fellow cast members 'intimidating' at first.
A tale of two halves
She explained that her first day on set was particularly daunting because she was shooting a scene with Don Warrington, who plays Commissioner Selwyn Patterson. Anna said: "Don was my first scene with him and I was so nervous, I was like, 'Oh my God, it's Don Warrington.' "But he was so lovely and so sweet and I realised, actually, everyone is so lovely and welcoming."

Anna also revealed that she had a lot of fun filming the show's famous clifftop scenes. She said: "The clifftop scenes are always a bit nerve-racking because you're so high up, but they're also so beautiful. The views are just stunning."
No place like home
And the actor admitted that she is a big fan of the show's setting, the fictional island of Saint Marie. Anna said: "I love Guadeloupe, it's such a beautiful island. The people are so friendly and the food is amazing. I can't wait to go back."
On the up
Death In Paradise is currently airing its 12th series on BBC One. The show has been a huge hit with viewers, and has won numerous awards, including the BAFTA TV Award for Best Drama Series in 2019.
Big shoes
Anna is the fourth detective sergeant to join the show, following in the footsteps of Ben Miller, Kris Marshall and Ardal O'Hanlon. And she admitted that she felt a lot of pressure to live up to their legacy.

Anna said: "I was definitely nervous about joining the show, because it's such a well-loved show and I didn't want to let anyone down. But everyone was so supportive and I quickly settled in.

The actor also praised her co-star Ralf Little, who plays DI Neville Parker. Anna said: "Ralf is a brilliant actor and he's also a really lovely person. He's been a great support to me and I'm so grateful to have him as a colleague."
