Christmas Lights On in Toon!
The festive season has officially arrived in the North East as Newcastle was illuminated with thousands of sparkling Christmas lights at the weekend.
The city center was awash with color as crowds gathered to witness the annual switch-on event, which included live music, and a special appearance from Santa Claus.
The festivities kicked off at 5 pm on Saturday 12th November, with a performance by the Salvation Army Band on Grey's Monument. The crowds were then treated to a countdown before the lights were officially turned on by the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, Cllr. David Wood.
This year's display is said to be the biggest and brightest yet, with over 600,000 LED lights adorning the city's streets and buildings. The lights will be on display every evening until 6th January 2023.
As well as the traditional Christmas lights, there are also a number of festive installations around the city, including a giant Christmas tree in Old Eldon Square and a light display on the Tyne Bridge.
