BJP-AAP Game Starts in Delhi: First Wicket Down! Minister Kailash Gehlot Resigns with Serious Accusations
AAP Minister Kailash Gehlot Resigns from Delhi Cabinet
On Tuesday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was dealt a significant blow when Minister Kailash Gehlot resigned from his post as Minister of Transport, Revenue, Law, and Administrative Reforms in the Delhi government. Gehlot's resignation came amidst allegations of corruption and a raid by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) at his residence.
Gehlot Denies Allegations, Accuses BJP of Conspiracy
Gehlot has strongly denied the allegations against him, calling them politically motivated. He alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) was behind the CBI raid and was trying to defame him and the AAP government.
In a statement, Gehlot said, "The BJP is using central agencies to target AAP leaders. They are trying to silence us because we are exposing their corruption." He also claimed that the CBI raid was based on false information.
BJP Demands Gehlot's Arrest, AAP Defends Him
The BJP, however, has demanded Gehlot's arrest. The party's Delhi unit chief, Adesh Gupta, said, "The CBI raid has revealed serious irregularities in Gehlot's department. He should be immediately arrested and investigated."
The AAP has defended Gehlot, calling the allegations against him "baseless." The party's spokesperson, Saurabh Bhardwaj, said, "The BJP is trying to malign the AAP government. They have no evidence against Gehlot, and he will be cleared of all charges."
CBI Raid Reveals 'Suspicious' Documents
The CBI raid at Gehlot's residence reportedly recovered "suspicious" documents related to alleged irregularities in the purchase of buses by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) when Gehlot was the Transport Minister.
Sources said that the CBI is also investigating allegations that Gehlot favored a particular company in the award of contracts for the operation of electric buses in Delhi.
AAP Facing a Major Challenge
Gehlot's resignation has come as a major setback for the AAP government, which is already facing several other challenges, including the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, the financial crisis, and the farmers' protest.
The BJP is looking to capitalize on the AAP's troubles and has stepped up its attack on the Kejriwal government. The party is likely to use Gehlot's resignation to corner the AAP in the upcoming Delhi Municipal Corporation elections.
What's Next?
It remains to be seen how the AAP government will respond to the BJP's attacks and whether it can weather the storm. The CBI investigation into Gehlot's alleged corruption is likely to continue, and the outcome of the investigation could have a significant impact on the AAP's future.
