Bagnaia Explains Bizarre Post-FP1 Crash After Vinales Run-In

Francesco Bagnaia has revealed the circumstances surrounding his bizarre post-FP1 crash at the British Grand Prix, which was triggered by a collision with Maverick Vinales.

Bagnaia was running wide at Turn 9 when he clipped the rear of Vinales' Aprilia, sending both riders tumbling to the ground.

Bagnaia was able to remount his Ducati and return to the pits, but Vinales was forced to retire from the session with a suspected ankle injury.

Speaking to reporters after the crash, Bagnaia explained that he had been trying to avoid hitting Vinales, but that he had been unable to do so.

"I was trying to avoid him, but I couldn't," Bagnaia said. "I was on the outside and he was on the inside, and I just couldn't avoid him."

Bagnaia said that he was "sorry" about the incident and that he hoped Vinales was not seriously injured.

"I'm sorry for what happened," Bagnaia said. "I hope Maverick is okay."

Vinales, who was visibly shaken after the crash, was taken to the medical center for examination.

The Spaniard is expected to undergo further tests on his ankle to determine the extent of the injury.
